Which Bible Translation and Resources do I use?

The author utilizes the Authorised (King James) Version and the New American Standard Bible (NASB 1995) for personal study, preferring NASB for writing and preaching due to its clarity and precision. Key resources include the Old Scofield Reference Bible and the Ryrie Study Bible, with a growing preference for the Scofield KJV.

For personal private study and reading of the Holy Bible, I use the KJV Concord Wide Margin Reference Bible by Cambridge University Press. I also refer to the New American Standard Bible 1995. My primary resources and material for study include the Old Scofield Reference Bible, the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible, the Newberry Bible, the Companion Bible, and the Ryrie Study Bible.

I find the NASB to be more precise than the AV/KJV in certain verses, while in other instances, I prefer the AV/KJV over the NASB. I decided to adopt the NASB as the chief translation for my writing in June 2025, leading me to focus on two principal translations of God’s Word: the Authorised (King James) Version and the New American Standard Bible (NASB 95).

The primary reason I choose the NASB for my writing is its clarity, making it more comprehensible for contemporary readers and listeners. The NASB serves as a solid and literal translation of God’s Word, akin to the Old King James Version. I also find the Darby Translation a faithful and useful tool in the study of God’s Holy Word.

    I adopted the NASB on your advice, and it’s like the words opened up a brand new world for me. I grew up with the KJV, but when I heard message after message “correcting” or rather, explaining what the KJV was saying, I realized there has to be a better, more up-to-date English version.

    I hardly refer to the KJV any more. I find it’s not very helpful. At one time, it certainly was. I’m thankful for it and what it says. But there are so many better translations available today that really speak to our hearts and communicate God’s truths.
