Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

In Scripture God uses various Hebrew names to introduce and describe Himself. In the first verse of the first chapter of Scripture God introduces Himself as Elohim which means, Strong One or Supreme God. Throughout Scripture we are reminded that God is the Strong and Mighty One. Elohim is used 2,570 times in Scripture. The might and power of God is available to all who love Him. We need that strength and power that can only come from Elohim. May we fight our daily battles against the flesh and sin in the strength of Elohim, the strong one.

Isaiah 41:10 says, “  ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

2 Corinthians 12:9–10 says, “And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.”

In the Book of Psalms the word, “Elohim” is mentioned over 400 times. Psalm 82:1 is one example, “GOD takes His stand in His own congregation; He judges in the midst of the rulers.” As we go about our day let us remind ourselves of the greatness of our God and call upon the name of Elohim in ever spiritual battle we face.
