Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
We cannot add to or diminish God’s glory, as He is infinitely glorious in thought, word, and action. This leads to the question: how can we glorify God and find joy in Him? We glorify Him in various ways, such as through faith and repentance. Genuine repentance reveals God’s glory and mercy, showing that He forgives sinners. By confessing His name, we affirm that He is trustworthy and true. We should proclaim God’s glory by remaining faithful in our service to Him. Externally, our good deeds honour God, while living a holy life internally reflects His glory. It is a Christian’s joy to live for God and His purposes (1 Corinthians 6:20).
When we pray to God, we honour Him, acknowledging that He cares about humanity and creation. Even nature itself proclaims God’s glory. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” Humanity was created to glorify God, as stated in Isaiah 43:7, “Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made.” Revelation 4:11 further affirms this, declaring, “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
In 2 Peter 1:3, the Bible states, “seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” Therefore, everyone should recognize God and His daily provisions. We honour God by glorifying Him, and to glorify God is to find enjoyment as a Christian. To honour God, we must worship Him in our thoughts, words, and actions. We can glorify God not only in life but also in death. In John 21:19, Jesus tells Peter that he will glorify God through his death. Like Peter, we too can bring glory to God even in death. Paul wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8). We honour God in death by enduring to the end.
Here are remarks from Christian figures during their last moments on earth. Martin Luther said, “Our God is the God from whom salvation comes. God is the Lord by whom we escape death.” Augustus Toplady expressed, “I already enjoy heaven in my soul. My prayers have all turned to praises.” Just before he died, John Knox remarked, “Live in Christ, die in Christ, and the flesh need not fear death.” Every Christian can share the same peace and assurance in death as these men did. Jesus proclaimed that He is the life and the resurrection, assuring that all who trust in Him, even if they die physically, will have everlasting life. We will glorify God forever in His heavenly Kingdom, experiencing everlasting joy, peace, happiness, and eternal rest in God’s realm.
