“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

As the final hours of 2025 draw to a close, we find ourselves standing on the threshold of a brand-new year, a moment filled with both reflection and anticipation. For many, this night carries mixed emotions: gratitude for blessings, sorrow for losses, hope for what’s ahead, and repentance for moments we wish had gone differently.

But God’s Word reminds us of something powerful in Christ, “old things are passed away.” The failures, regrets, and fears of yesterday do not define who we are today. Through Jesus, we are made new not just once, but continually. His mercies are “new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23).

The change of a calendar year does not magically erase our troubles, but it does give us a vivid reminder that our God is the God of new beginnings. Every sunrise, every breath, every answered prayer is proof that He is still working.

As you reflect tonight, take a moment to thank God for His faithfulness through 2025 through the joys and through the trials. Then, place 2026 in His hands, trusting that He who has carried you this far will carry you all the way home.

A Prayer for the New Year (2026)

Heavenly Father,

As this year comes to a close, we pause to thank Thee for Thy steadfast love and mercy that have carried us through 2025. In every joy and in every trial, Thou hast been faithful.

Lord, we lay the coming year of 2026 before Thee. We do not know what it holds, but we know Who holds it. Teach us to walk by faith and not by sight. Help us to trust Thee more deeply, to serve Thee more faithfully, and to love others more fully.

Create in us clean hearts, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Let this new year be a season of spiritual growth, fresh beginnings, and renewed devotion to Thee.

May our words honor Thee, our actions reflect Thy grace, and our lives shine with the light of Christ.

We commit 2026 into Thy hands, believing that Thou wilt do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.

In Jesus’ precious name we pray,
Amen.

May our closing thought be that of Psalm 121:8, “The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

Step into 2026 with peace. God is already there.
