The Widow’s Offering
1. And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury.
2. And He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites.
3. And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all.
4. For all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty has put in all the living that she had.”
The Destruction of the Temple Foretold
5. And as some were speaking of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts, He said,
6. “As for these things which you see, the days will come in which there shall not be left one stone upon another, which shall not be thrown down.”
Signs of the End of the Age
7. And they asked Him, “Teacher, but when shall these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to come to pass?”
8. And He said, “Take heed that you are not led astray, for many shall come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has come.’ Do not follow them.
9. And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified, for these things must first happen, but the end will not immediately come.”
10. Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
11. And there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.
12. But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and rulers for My name’s sake.
13. It will turn out to you for a testimony.
14. Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate beforehand how to answer,
15. for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or contradict.
16. You shall be delivered up even by parents and brethren, and kinsfolk and friends; and some of you shall they put to death.
17. And you shall be hated by all for My name’s sake.
18. But not a hair of your head shall perish.
19. By your endurance you shall gain your lives.
The Desolation of Jerusalem
20. “But when you see Jerusalem compassed by armies, then know that its desolation is near.
21. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of her depart, and those who are in the country not enter into her.
22. For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
23. Woe to those who are with child and to those who give suck in those days, for there shall be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people.
24. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all nations. And Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.”
The Coming of the Son of Man
25. “And there shall be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves,
26. men fainting from fear and expectation of the things coming upon the world, for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27. And then they shall see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28. And when these things begin to come to pass, look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption draws near.”
The Lesson of the Fig Tree
29. And He spoke a parable to them: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees.
30. When they now shoot forth, you see and know of your own selves that summer is now near.
31. So you also, when you see these things coming to pass, know that the kingdom of God is near.
32. Truly I say to you, this generation shall not pass away till all be fulfilled.
33. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.”
Exhortation to Watchfulness
34. “Take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly.
35. For it shall come as a snare upon all who dwell on the face of all the earth.
36. Watch you therefore at all times, praying that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things which shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Assurance of God’s Care
37. And He was daily teaching in the temple, and at night He went out and abode in the mount called the Mount of Olives.
38. And all the people came early in the morning to Him in the temple to hear Him.
