Zacchaeus and the Visit of Jesus

1. And entering, Jesus passed through Jericho.
2. And behold, a man named Zacchaeus, and he was a chief tax-collector, and he was wealthy.
3. And he was seeking to see who Jesus is, and could not from the crowd, because he was small in stature.
4. And having run ahead, he climbed up a sycamore-fig tree in order that he might see Him, because He was about to pass by that way.
5. And as Jesus came to the place, having looked up, He said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay in your house.”
6. And having hurried, he came down and received Him rejoicing.
7. And all who saw it were murmuring, saying, “He has gone in to lodge with a sinful man.”
8. And Zacchaeus, having stood, said to the Lord, “Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore fourfold.”
9. And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.”
10. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

The Parable of the Minas

11. And as they were listening to these things, He added and spoke a parable, because He was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that the kingdom of God was about to appear instantly.
12. Therefore He said, “A certain nobleman went to a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return.”
13. “And calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas and said to them, ‘Conduct business until I come.’”
14. “But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’”
15. “And it happened when he returned, having received the kingdom, he said for those servants to be called to him to whom he had given the money, in order that he might know what each had gained by trading.”
16. “And the first came, saying, ‘Master, your mina has made ten minas more.’”
17. “And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant; because you have been faithful in the least, have authority over ten cities.’”
18. “And the second came, saying, ‘Your mina, master, has made five minas.’”
19. “And he said also to this one, ‘And you, be over five cities.’”
20. “And another came, saying, ‘Master, behold your mina, which I kept laid away in a hand-kerchief.’”
21. ‘For I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man; you take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.’”
22. “He says to him, ‘Out of your mouth I will judge you, wicked servant. You knew that I am a harsh man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow.’”
23. ‘Therefore why did you not put my money to the bank, and I, coming, would have collected it with interest.’”
24. “And to those standing by he said, ‘Take from him the mina and give to the one having the ten minas.’”
25. And they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas.’
26. “I tell you that to everyone having, it will be given; but from the one not having, even what he has will be taken away.”
27. “But these my enemies, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.”

The Entry into Jerusalem

28. And having said these things, He went on ahead, going up into Jerusalem.
29. And it happened that when He came near to Bethphage and Bethany, toward the Mount called of Olives, He sent two of the disciples.
30. Saying, “Go into the village opposite, in which entering you will find a colt tied, upon which none of men has ever sat; untie it and bring it.”
31. “And if anyone asks you, ‘Why do you untie it?’ you shall say thus, ‘Because the Lord has need of it.’”
32. And those having been sent went and found as He had said to them.
33. And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34. And they said, “The Lord has need of it.”
35. And they brought it to Jesus, and having thrown their garments upon the colt, they set Jesus upon it.
36. And as He was going, they were spreading their garments on the road.
37. And as He was nearing the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began rejoicing to praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen.
38. Saying, “Blessed is the King coming in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven and glory in the highest.”
39. And some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”
40. And answering, He said, “I tell you, if these shall be silent, the stones will cry out.”

Jesus Weeps Over Jerusalem

41. And as He drew near, having seen the city, He wept over it.
42. Saying, “If you had known, even you, in this day, the things leading to peace, but now they are hidden from your eyes.”
43. “For days will come upon you, when your enemies will throw up a rampart around you, and surround you, and hem you in on every side.”
44. “And they will dash you and your children within you to the ground, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognise the time of your visitation.”

Jesus in the Temple

45. And having entered into the temple, He began to cast out those selling.
46. Saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers.”
47. And He was teaching daily in the temple; but the chief priests and the scribes and the foremost men of the people were seeking to destroy Him.
48. And they were not finding what they might do, for all the people were hanging upon Him, listening.
