A Call to Repentance

1. Now some were present at that time reporting to him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
2. And answering, he said to them, “Do you think that these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans because they suffered these things.”
3. “No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”
4. “Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were debtors beyond all the people dwelling in Jerusalem.”
5. “No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

6. And he spoke this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.”
7. “So he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none; cut it down; why indeed does it make the ground useless.’”
8. But answering he says to him, “Lord, leave it also this year, until I dig around it and put on manure.”
9. “And if indeed it bears fruit in the coming year, good; but if not, you will cut it down.”

Healing the Bent Woman on the Sabbath

10. And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
11. And look, a woman who had a spirit of weakness for eighteen years, and she was bent double and could not at all straighten herself.
12. And seeing her, Jesus called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are released from your weakness.”
13. And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was straightened and glorified God.
14. But the ruler of the synagogue, being indignant because Jesus healed on the Sabbath, was answering and saying to the crowd, “There are six days in which one must work; therefore come on these and be healed, and not on the day of the Sabbath.”
15. But the Lord answered him and said, “Hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it away to give it drink.”
16. “And this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound, look, for eighteen years, should she not be released from this bond on the Sabbath day.”
17. And as he was saying these things, all those opposing him were put to shame, and the whole crowd rejoiced at all the glorious things being done by him.

The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Leaven

18. So he was saying, “To what is the kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it.”
19. “It is like a mustard seed which a man took and threw into his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the sky nested in its branches.”
20. And again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God.”
21. “It is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour until the whole was leavened.”

The Narrow Door

22. And he was going through towns and villages, teaching and journeying towards Jerusalem.
23. And someone said to him, “Lord, are those being saved few.” But he said to them,
24. “Strive to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.”
25. “From the time the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ and he will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from.’”
26. “Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank before you, and you taught in our streets.’”
27. “And he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know you, where you are from; depart from me, all you workers of unrighteousness.’”
28. “There will be weeping and the grinding of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves being thrown outside.”
29. “And they will come from east and west and north and south and will recline at table in the kingdom of God.”
30. “And look, there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.”

Jesus’ Lament over Jerusalem

31. In that very hour some Pharisees came saying to him, “Go out and depart from here, because Herod wants to kill you.”
32. And he said to them, “Go, tell that fox, ‘Look, I cast out demons and perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I am brought to completion.’”
33. “Nevertheless, I must go on today and tomorrow and the following day, because it is impossible for a prophet to perish outside Jerusalem.”
34. “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one killing the prophets and stoning those sent to her, how often I wished to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were unwilling.”
35. “Look, your house is left to you; and I tell you, you will by no means see me until the time comes when you say, ‘Blessed is the one coming in the name of the Lord.’.”
