2. For forty days being tempted by the devil; and He ate nothing in those days, and when they were completed, He was hungry.
3. And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, speak to this stone so that it may become bread.”
4. And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’.”
5. And leading Him up, he showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6. And the devil said to Him, “To You I will give all this authority and their glory, because it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomsoever I will.”
7. “Therefore, if You would worship before me, it shall all be Yours.”
8. And Jesus answered and said to him, “It is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him alone shall you serve.’.”
9. And he brought Him to Jerusalem and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, cast Yourself down from here.”
10. “For it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning You, to guard You,’.”
11. “And ‘on their hands they will bear You up, lest You strike Your foot against a stone.’.”
12. And Jesus answered him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not test the Lord your God.’.”
13. And when the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.

16. And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and, according to His custom, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read.
17. And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him, and unrolling the scroll He found the place where it was written.
18. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor; He has sent me to proclaim release to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out the oppressed in freedom.”
19. “To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
20. And rolling up the scroll, He gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.
21. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
22. And all were bearing witness to Him and were marvelling at the gracious words coming from His mouth, and they were saying, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”
23. And He said to them, “Surely you will speak this proverb to me, ‘Physician, heal yourself,’ ‘Whatever we have heard was done in Capernaum, do also here in your own hometown.’.”
24. And He said, “Truly I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his own hometown.”
25. “But in truth I say to you, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut for three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land.”
26. “And Elijah was sent to none of them, except to a widow in Zarephath of Sidon.”
27. “And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.”
28. And all in the synagogue were filled with wrath when they heard these things.
29. And rising up, they drove Him out of the city and brought Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, so that they might throw Him down.
30. But passing through the midst of them, He went away.

34. “Ah! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are, the Holy One of God.”
35. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him.” And when the demon had thrown him into the midst, it came out of him, doing him no harm.
36. And amazement came upon all, and they were speaking with one another, saying, “What is this word? Because with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.”
37. And a report about Him was going out into every place of the surrounding region.

Healings in Simon’s House and Throughout Galilee

38. And rising up from the synagogue He entered into the house of Simon. And Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a great fever, and they asked Him concerning her.
39. And standing over her He rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately rising up she was serving them.
40. And when the sun was setting, all who had any that were sick with various diseases were bringing them to Him; and laying His hands on each one of them, He was healing them.
41. And demons were also coming out of many, crying out and saying, “You are the Son of God.” And rebuking them, He was not allowing them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ.

44. And He was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
