Teaching on Divorce

1. And rising up from there, he comes into the regions of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds again come together to him, and again, as he was accustomed, he was teaching them.
2. And Pharisees approached and were asking him if it is lawful for a man to divorce a wife, testing him.
3. And he answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?”.
4. And they said, “Moses permitted to write a certificate of divorce and to dismiss her.”
5. And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote for you this command.”
6. “But from the beginning of creation, male and female God made them.”
7. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife.”
8. “And the two shall be one flesh, so that they are no longer two but one flesh.”
9. “What therefore God joined together, let no man separate.”
10. And in the house again the disciples were asking him about this.
11. And he says to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.”
12. “And if she, having divorced her husband, marries another, she commits adultery.”

Jesus Blesses the Children

13. And they were bringing children to him so that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.
14. And when Jesus saw, he was indignant and said to them, “Allow the children to come to me, do not hinder them, for of such is the kingdom of God.”.
15. “Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall certainly not enter into it.”.
16. And taking them in his arms, he blessed them, laying his hands on them.

The Rich Man and the Kingdom

17. And as he was going out onto the road, one ran up, knelt before him, and was asking him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do so that I may inherit eternal life?”
18. And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except one, God.”.
19. “You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, honour your father and mother.’”
20. And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.”
21. And Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go, whatever you have sell, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
22. But he, being darkened in face at the word, went away grieving, for he was having many possessions.
23. And Jesus, looking around, says to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for the ones having wealth to enter the kingdom of God.”
24. And the disciples were astonished at his words. And Jesus again answers and says to them, “Children, how difficult it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God.”
25. “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
26. And they were exceedingly astonished, saying among themselves, “And who is able to be saved?”
27. Jesus, looking at them, says, “With man it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”
28. Peter began to say to him, “Look, we left all and followed you.”
29. Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the gospel’s sake”
30. “Who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, with persecutions, and in the coming age eternal life.”
31. “But many first will be last, and the last first.”

Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time

32. And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going ahead of them; and they were astonished, and the ones following were afraid. And taking again the twelve, he began to tell them the things about to happen to him.
33. “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles.”
34. “And they will mock him and spit on him and flog him and kill him, and after three days he will rise.”

The Request of James and John

35. And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come to him saying, “Teacher, we want that whatever we ask of you, you would do for us.”
36. And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?”
37. And they said to him, “Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right and one at your left, in your glory.”
38. But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup which I drink, or to be baptised with the baptism with which I am baptised?”
39. And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup which I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptised you will be baptised.”
40. “But to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”
41. And hearing, the ten began to be indignant concerning James and John.
42. And Jesus, calling them, says to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.”
43. “But it is not so among you; rather, whoever wishes to become great among you will be your servant.”
44. “And whoever wishes to be first among you will be slave of all.”
45. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Healing of Blind Bartimaeus

46. And they come to Jericho. And as he was going out from Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting beside the road.
47. And when he heard that it is Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me!”
48. And many were rebuking him so that he might be silent, but he kept crying out much more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49. And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they call the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage, rise, he is calling you.”
50. And throwing off his cloak, he leapt up and came to Jesus.
51. And answering him, Jesus said, “What do you want me to do for you?”. And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, that I may see again.”
52. And Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he regained his sight and was following him on the road.
