Sin is ours and the blame
Sinful deeds and the shame
Against God’s holy law and name,
Just is He to condemn to eternal flame

How can mortal man comprehend?
The love and grace of Christ’s end
The Saviour and sinner’s friend,
To the helpless estate of man, attend

On that day that Christ died,
His blood did flood the land
To redeem sinners for His bride,
All at justice and mercy’s command

Wicked men in vain did think,
Christ’s power and message would sink,
But He defeated hell, death, the grave
To grant life eternal, and souls to save
