Christ the True High Priest
1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of humans in things relating to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins,
2 being able to deal gently with the ignorant and wandering, since he himself also is encompassed with weakness.
3 And because of it, he is obligated, just as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
4 And no one takes the honour for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was.
The Divine Appointment of Christ
5 Thus also Christ did not glorify himself to become High Priest, but the One who said to him, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.”
6 Just as also in another place he says, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
Christ’s Suffering and Obedience
7 Who, in the days of his flesh, offered up prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent fear.
8 Although being a Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered;
9 and having been perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him,
10 having been called by God as High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
A Rebuke for Immaturity
11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is difficult to explain, because you have become sluggish in hearing.
12 For indeed, although by this time you ought to be teachers, you again have need for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the beginning of the oracles of God, and you have become those having need of milk and not solid food.
13 For everyone partaking of milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.
14 But solid food is for the mature, the ones who by reason of use have their senses trained for the discernment of both good and evil.
