In John 11:1, the Bible tells us that Lazarus was experiencing a serious illness. Illness is something that can affect anyone at any stage in life, meaning that both believers in Christ and those who do not share that faith can find themselves facing health challenges. The Scriptures tell us that during the time of Lazarus’s sickness, the Lord Jesus did not immediately go to be with him. This delay, however, should not be interpreted as a lack of concern or indifference from the Lord towards Lazarus and his plight.
Lazarus ultimately passed away and was laid in a tomb, leading many to believe that his story had come to a conclusion. Yet, for Lazarus, this was far from the final chapter. The narrative takes a miraculous turn when the Lord Jesus commands, “Lazarus, come forth,” demonstrating His power over life and death, and indicating that there is much more to the story than what initially meets the eye.
As we move through our daily lives, it is important to remember that we serve a Saviour who possesses ultimate authority over both life and death, as well as good and evil. The Lord Jesus powerfully demonstrated His control over death when He called Lazarus out of the tomb, showcasing His divine capabilities.
Therefore, when we encounter challenging circumstances in our lives, we should not feel discouraged or lose hope. We have a God and King who is deeply aware of the needs of His people. Our God is not only a compassionate Father who answers prayers but also a healer for those who are sick in body, mind and soul. Let us place our trust in the Lord Jesus at every stage and moment of our existence. We should have faith in Him during times of joy as well as in periods of trial. It is crucial to hold on to the assurance that He listens to the prayers, worries, and sufferings of His people.
