When Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek in Genesis 14, the name of God which the priest worshiped God by was, “God Most High.” Genesis 14:19-20 says, “He blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”

This name of God is also used in Psalm 78:35, “And they remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their Redeemer.” Psalm 57:2 also uses this name, “I will cry to God Most High, To God who accomplishes all things for me.” There is nothing higher or greater than the God of Holy Scripture.

Man, in his pride loves to be the best and greatest in his field of expertise. Most politicians seek promotion to the government and every leader of a political party seeks to become the leader of their country. Even in the workplace everyone is seeking to be the best they can be and hopefully be recognized by their manager. Pride is that sin that causes us to exalt ourselves over others. Now, there is nothing wrong about getting promotion at work and bettering ourselves, but if our position causes us to think that we are better than others than that is when we fall into the sin of pride.

The prophet Daniel warned King Nebuchadnezzar about his pride. The Book of Daniel tells us that King Nebuchadnezzar placed three Jewish men Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into a furnace of fire because they refused to bow down and worship false gods. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were preserved and survived the flames. After this event King Nebuchadnezzar recognized the power of the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

Daniel 4:34 says, “But at the end of that period, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever; For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom endures from generation to generation.”

As long as you are proud in heart you cannot know God? Humble yourself and come before the Most High God and give Him the honour and worship that is due only unto Him.
