Repentance
Matthew 3:8
A change in the heart and mind from sin and towards God. Faith alone is the condition of salvation. Repentance accompanies faith since without it no-one will see the Lord (Heb. 12:14). There are essential elements of salvation and repentance. The three for repentance are as follows.
- A genuine sorrow for sin (2 Cor. 7:9-10).
- An inward repugnance of sin and a forsaking of it (Acts 26:20, Heb. 6:1).
Repentance is a gift from God. See Acts 5:31, 11:18, Rom. 2:4. As with faith so with repentance, the responsibility is left to man to make for themselves the decision. Repentance is a deeply seated turning from self to God. A moment when God is recognised as the most important fact of one’s existence.
3. Obedience to the Scriptures and to the will of God (Acts 9:6).
