Due to the fall, humanity is now in a condition of sin and suffering. This indicates that the consequences of the fall led people into a state characterized by sin and misery. We can observe how sin creates distress in our lives. Sin ensnares the sinner, keeping us under God’s wrath and condemnation. This condition of spiritual death is a precursor to eventual physical death, illustrating the power that sin exerts over us. The Bible refers to our sin as darkness, indicating that our state of sin means we exist in spiritual darkness. God embodies the opposite of darkness. In 1 John 1:5, it is stated, “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.”

We must confront the unfortunate reality of our situation before we can grasp the uplifting message of the Gospel regarding God’s grace. Christ arrived to accomplish a work of salvation. His completed sacrifice on the cross liberates us from the pain and consequences of sin. Christ’s mission was to restore our relationship with God. He came to free us from the power and shame of sin. The innocent sacrificed Himself for the guilty. The one without sin came to redeem those who are sinful. Light was brought forth to dispel darkness. If we approach God with faith and genuine repentance, we will experience a transformation in our spiritual lives. Through our faith in Christ, we receive a renewed existence. The Lord Jesus Christ endured suffering and died for sinners. Let us find encouragement today in the truth that Christ delivers us from sin and suffering.
