There is only one individual who traversed this earth who completely adhered to the will of God. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is the sole figure who remained untainted by the original sin of Adam. He existed in a state of perfect freedom from both original and actual sin. The scripture in Hebrews 7:26 states, “For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens.” Furthermore, 1 Peter 2:21 asserts, “For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps.” Jesus was free from original sin as He was born of a virgin through the power of the Holy Spirit. According to Matthew 1:18, “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows. When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.”

Romans 5:12-13 states, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned— for until the Law sin was in the world; but sin is not imputed when there is no law.” Adam served as the representative of humanity on Earth. When he faltered, humanity fell with him. Adam functioned as the federal head; similar to how a government representative, by signing an agreement, acts on behalf of the nation, thus the agreement impacts not only the individual but the entire nation. This is the rationale behind our propensity to sin, as we are born as sinners. Consequently, the removal of sin must be fulfilled by one who has never sinned. The transgressions of God’s people are paid for through the death of the sinless Messiah on Calvary’s cross. Our sins are attributed to Christ’s account so that His righteousness can be attributed to us.

To conclude, 1 Corinthians 15:22 states, “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive.” The Bible indicates that all descendants of Adam inherit a sinful nature, living under the law’s curse, and thus are destined to die. Conversely, everyone who is in Christ Jesus will be given life. Today, I want to pose this question to you: Are you in Adam or are you in Christ? Are you subject to the law’s curse, or have you received life through Christ?
