There is no such thing as fate, luck, or chance in the life of a child of God. Our God is a personal being. He is active in all circumstances and events of life. He is sovereign and in complete control, not so-called, “mother nature.” He is not only involved in the lives of His people but also in the lives of the ungodly. God governs all things and preserves all things.
So, if God is in full control of events does this mean that He is the author of sin and evil? No, God cannot do that which is contrary to His divine nature. Sin and evil are the absence of God. Just like darkness is the absence of light, evil is the absence of good. In Genesis 50:20 the Bible says, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.” There are events that take place that people intend for evil, but God uses those situations for good, often to teach His people. The cross is a good example of this. The enemies of Christ intended to crucify Christ to destroy him, but God used those wicked men to bring about the reconciling death and resurrection of Christ. The event brought about the one and only means of salvation.
Psalm 76:10 says, “For the wrath of man shall praise You; With a remnant of wrath You will gird Yourself.” God limits man in his sin. God allows man to sin but is not the author of sin. God desires to show His mercy and grace in the sinfulness of man. Adam is a good example of this. God said that in the day that Adam sinned he would surely die. Instead of dying at once, God allowed Adam to live another day and another day. God poured out His mercy and grace on sinful Adam.
Psalm 103:19 says, “The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all.” God continues to preserve His creation. He carries out His decrees in works of creation and providence. All things would cease to exist if God does not uphold His creation. Psalm 104:24 says, “O Lord, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; The earth is full of Your possessions.” Psalm 36:6 continues, “Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; Your judgments are like a great deep. O Lord, You preserve man and beast.”
