The word “decree” means that God decides what is to happen that will bring Him glory. Every bird that glides through the air, every landscape of beauty is created by God for His glory. His divine declarations were decided before time. In Psalm 148:6 the Bible says, “He has also established them forever and ever; He has made a decree which will not pass away.” Also, see Isaiah 10:22 and Romans 8:28.

God executes many decrees, but they are all to one end; the glory of His name. The Apostle Paul declares this great truth in his second letter to Timothy, “who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity” (2 Timothy 1:9).

The rule of God in bringing forth His decrees is the counsel of His divine will, with wisdom and truth in mind. Thus, God’s will is always the best and for our best. We may not fully understand the will of God at the time, and we may never comprehend it. Nevertheless, God’s way is always for good. He never makes mistakes as God is without error and fault (Proverbs 19:21). Let us take heart in the knowledge that the perfection of God is daily on display.

Nothing happens without God allowing events to take place. There is no such thing as luck or chance. Take for example the testing of Job. I am sure that Job did not enjoy what happened to him, but the events that took place brought glory to God. Another example is found in Daniel 11:36. The joys of life, the woes of life, the sorrows of life, and the happiness of life are appointed by God. All things happen in accordance with God’s divine decrees. Let us say, “Thy will be done, O Lord.” Romans 11:36 says, “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.”
