The Lord Jesus Christ died for the redemption of humanity. He made salvation possible for all men. However, not all men are saved. Only those who acknowledge Him as their Lord and Saviour are saved from the penalty of sin. God sent His Son into the world to redeem souls for His purpose, paying a cost—the cost of His blood. Everyone who believes in Christ is liberated from the slavery and authority of sin, which governs the unconverted soul.
This is the reason He is named Jesus, as He came to redeem His people. He is God’s chosen one, the promised Messiah, the Christ. The Redeemer of the Church is the Lord Jesus Christ, who reigns supremely as the Lord over all (Acts 10:36). It was essential for Christ to become human to save sinners. He had to die on the cross for salvation to be offered. Galatians 4:4-7 says, “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.”
As you go through your day, reflect on the Lord Jesus Christ and what He has accomplished for sinners like you and me. Christ relinquished the splendour of heaven, descended to earth, and died on a Roman cross to provide meaning and purpose for souls. He entered a sinful world and lived without sin. Christ humbled Himself and became a human being, obedient even unto death on the cross. Jesus Christ is the one true redeemer. Does this reality draw you closer to Him and create a longing within you to honour Him more as your Lord and Saviour?
