Last year I visited the final resting place of the First Bishop of Liverpool, John Charles Ryle (1816-1900). He is buried at All Saints Church, Childwall, Liverpool, England. He is best known for his books and tracts such as Holiness, Old Paths and Knots Untied. Ryle was one of the last of the great Evangelical bishops of the conservative wing of the Church of England. There is a memorial to Ryle in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral.
