- Subject to God – Romans 13. We are subject to the governing bodies as they are in their position by God. We are to obey them as far as the law of Christ permits.
- Authority – We are under the authority of God’s Word.
- Law and Order – 2 Peter 2.1 There are many false teachers who use the law of God and the truth of God for vain things. They pollute the truth and teach error. As citizens of Heaven, we are to rebuke error and teach the Word of God with faithfulness.
- Freedom in Christ – Galatians 5.1-15 As good citizens of Heaven let us use our freedom in Christ to do good.
- Obligations – Jeremiah 29.7 We are told to see the peace of the city in which we dwell. We are to promote peace and pray for peace. We are told to pray for the peace of Jerusalem in Psalm 122.6. By this the land will prosper.
- Honour is due – Romans 13.7 Honour is an important theme in Scripture and we are to give honour to whom honour is due. We honour God first. Honour is also due to earthly parents and those who God has appointed to rule over us.
- Righteous Nation – Proverbs 14.34 & Amos 5.14 Righteousness blesses a nation. A nation that is moral is a godly nation and a glory unto the Lord. Amos tells us to seek the good of a nation.
We do not need to be part of a nation’s political process for all this to be done. First, we belong to a heavenly kingdom.
