Mormonism is the theological teachings and practices of the Latter Day Saint movement which began in the 1820’s which Joseph Smith in the United States of America. Mormonism just like the Jehovah Witness movement is an unbiblical cult that is grounded in the teachings and traditions of men rather than the Holy Bible. In this short article I aim to tell you what Mormonism teaches and why it is unscriptural. Let us carefully consider the teachings of Mormonism in the light of the Bible
What does Mormonism teach?
- Denial of the Trinity.
- Jesus Christ is a created being.
- Jesus Christ is a spirit brother of Lucifer.
- God is eternally progressing?
- Men can become gods.
- Man pre-existed.
- Salvation by works (by keeping the word of Wisdom).
- Heavenly goddess mother.
- Secret Masonic-like rituals.
- Salvation for the dead.
What does the Bible teach?
The Trinity
1 John 5:7-8 says, “And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.”
The Divinity of Christ
1 Timothy 3:16 says, “And by common confession great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, Was vindicated in the Spirit, Beheld by angels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory.”
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God
John 1:14 says, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
God does not change
Malachi 3:6 says, ““For I, the Lord, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.”
Man is a created being
Genesis 2:7 says, “Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Salvation is by grace
Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;”
Salvation is through Jesus Christ
John 14:6 says, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.”
