Loneliness is one of the greatest threats to our physical and emotional well-being. It is reported that we become more lonely as we grow older. We need human connection; God designed us to have fellowship with one another. Painful moments of loneliness point to this fact. Christians have been meeting together since the Church began at Pentecost in the Book of Acts. The Bible tells us that the early church was committed to meeting together regularly to encourage each other.

Acts 2:42 tells us that the early church met regularly and continued in, “the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Also in Acts 2, the Bible tells us, “And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved” (Verse 46-47). It was important to those early saints that they met together in the name of their Lord and Saviour to encourage each other.

Some questions to consider.

  1. Do you meet with fellow believers to encourage them?
  2. How do you encourage other believers?
  3. Why do you think it is important to meet together as believers?
