On a mild May afternoon in 2019, a man was at the pity of despair. He concluded that his life was not worth living any longer and would not be missed if he was no longer around. That day he decided to take his own life. He reached for the medication cabinet and took a large number of pills. He believed the lie of the devil, that his life had no purpose. Shortly after he took the medication, he regretted it and called for help.
When the ambulance arrived, he was taken to hospital and soon was under treatment to reverse the effects of the medication. “You should not be here now; you were very lucky” was the words of the doctor treating the man. On that day God saved the man’s life. In Jeremiah 1:5 God declares that he knew Jeremiah before he was born and had a purpose for his life. All human life has a meaning and God has a purpose for your life. God knows us better than we know ourselves. He did not only create us, but he knows us from the moment we were formed in the womb to the day we take our final breath.
If you are suffering from thoughts of self-harm and suicide let me encourage you to seek help. Taking your life is not the answer to your worries. You will only cause more pain and suffering by your death. Your life does have meaning and you will be missed when you are gone.
Writing to Christians the Apostle Paul wrote concerning God, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU” (Hebrews 13:5). Do not listen to the voice of evil. The desire to harm yourself is the voice of the devil. It is never right or the desire of the Lord for you to end your life. Ecclesiastes 7:17 says, “Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time?”
