We could answer this question easily by saying that God’s way is always the best, and His direction always leads to holiness and the best for us. However, we don’t always want the best for ourselves. We desire the best, but the best is not always something we want to do. A divided heart is one of the greatest battles in the Christian life. That battle between the head and the heart is at times emotionally and mentally crippling. In times of hardship and trouble, we must heed the call of God and obey what He has taught us in Scripture.
When fear and doubt arise in our hearts it is profitable for us to recite Scripture verses and sing a hymn to focus our minds. One such hymn is, Teach me thy way, O Lord by the English organist and amateur composer, Benjamin Mansell Ramsey (1849-1923).
Throughout life we need wisdom; we need humility to admit we need God in life. We are reminded in Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” Look how God has directed people in the past. Spend time in God’s Word. Don’t follow the crowd. Remember wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it and right is right even if no one is doing it. Don’t follow your heart, for your heart has been corrupted by sin, it will deceive you. Follow the clear and truthful Word of the Lord given to us in Holy Scripture. SEEK YE THE LORD!!!
