“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28

The only comfort and rest a soul can find in this world is found in Christ. He is the one who hearts are made for; we are complete in Christ. It is said that Augustine once said, “You made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless till they rest in you.” Have you noticed how restless the world is today? We have more and more things to do, but people are not satisfied. We have more material things, but people are not happy. The Bible offers us the answer to this restless spirit.

We do not find true meaning in this world in material things. Have you noticed that people just want more and more? Have you noticed that when we attain all the material things we desire, they never bring us lasting peace? Solomon gave us some wisdom in the book of Ecclesiastes. All is vanity without God, all is vain, empty, and meaningless was the conclusion of King Solomon. In the Gospel of Mark Jesus said. “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” This is a question we need to ask ourselves. What is more important than eternal life? Your soul is the most important part of you. Nothing is more valuable than your soul. Would you sell your eyes for vast wealth? Most would say, “No”, our eyes are very important. We cannot put a price on our sight, so why do you put a price on your soul?

What is the price of your soul? The Lord Jesus Christ died on behalf of sinners. Christ values souls more than you could ever imagine. The message of the Gospel is simple. We have all sinned and fallen short of perfection. The penalty for falling short is an eternity in Hell. We cannot save ourselves, so Christ came to save us. All those who repent and accept Christ as Saviour will be saved. The message of the cross could not be plainer. Many people don’t understand, they don’t see their need for Christ, why? We find the answer in 1 Corinthians 1:18-19, “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, “I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE.”

To those who are not saved the Gospel is foolishness. Sadly, we are prone to think we can get by without daily meetings with the Saviour. O’ sinner come to Christ this hour and rest in Him.

Here are some questions to consider.

  1. Do you rest in Jesus?
  2. Have you come to him for salvation?
  3. Are you burdened with sin?
  4. Are you really trusting in Christ?
  5. What can be more important than your soul?
